Born in Claredon, Texas, July 18, 1919, Nick Stewart received his BS degree in Engineering from Texas Tech University, and was a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
Stewart retired December 26, 1980, after a long and progressively more responsible record of outstanding service with GSA that demonstrated the highest qualities of personal dedication, effectiveness, integrity, and ingenuity. It was a record that produced major improvements and efficiency and demonstrated unique leadership in three or more major programs of the GSA. In every assignment, Mr. Stewart displayed a strong ability to motivate and challenge employees, to gain loyalty and support for agency missions, and to generate a positive image of responsiveness to the needs of agencies served by GSA. In addition to performing his own duties, he was called upon to serve as Acting Regional Administrator and to direct nationwide projects.
Stewart received numerous performance awards, the Federal Business Association Civil Servant of the Year Award, Commendable Service Awards for serving as Acting Regional Administrator over fifty percent of the time in 1973-1975 and for personal leadership and efforts in the EEO Program, and the Administrator's Meritorious Service Award.
Stewart is survived by his wife Genevieve and two sons, Bennett and Randel, who live in Dallas.
