During the Spring of 2010, The Texas Collection hosted the Texas Blooms horticulture and gardening exhibit. Key elements of the display were moved to Moody Memorial Library's Allbritton Exhibition Foyer, and other items have been included to create a summer exhibit, Texas Blooms and More. These additional materials normally reside in the Central Libraries' General and Special Collections, including the Polk Rare Book Room and Government Documents. Some of the documents, including the Yearbook of Agriculture, date back to the early 1900s.
To complete the exhibit, beautiful posters were digitized from plates in Mary Vaux Walcott's North American Wildflowers, published in 1925 by The Smithsonian Institution and housed in Polk. Texas Blooms and More is the Central Libraries' first exhibit displayed using new, state-of-the-art, archival quality cases. The exhibit will run through August, and we hope everyone will take the opportunity to view these special items.
