Lyndon L. Olson, Jr., former United States Ambassador to Sweden, will be speaking at the 2nd Annual W.R. Poage Legislative Library Political Series on Tuesday, April 22, 2008.
A native of Waco and former member of the Texas House of Representatives, Mr. Olson has demonstrated a long committment to a host of civic, cultural and philantropic organizations in the state. Appointed by President Bill Clinton, Ambassador Olson served in Sweden from 1998 to 2001. In recognition of his achievements during his tenure, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden in 2002 presented him with the Swedish-American of the Year Award. Olson rejoined Citigroup Inc. in 2002 as a Senior Advisor.
Mr. Olson will share his experience as an ambassador and his knowledge of embassies. Entitled, "Inside an Embassy," Olson's lecture will cover the set-up, functions and every day life inside an embassy. He will also discuss what an ambassador is, what they do and how to become one. A question and answer session will follow his remarks.
The Olson lecture will be held at 6 p.m. in the Meadows Recital Hall, McCrary Music Building on the Baylor campus. A reception will follow at the Poage Library. The lecture and reception are free and open to the public.
