Central Libraries Pilot Project to Extend Weekend Hours

Aug. 16, 2012

The Central Libraries will extend its hours of operation to 11:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights during the fall semester as part of a pilot project initiated by a request from Student Government. Student representatives voiced concerns on behalf of those who have a difficult time finding spaces on campus to study on weekend nights and often end up at local 24 hour restaurants or other locations. In response to this concern, the Central Libraries will implement this pilot so that students who plan to study on weekend nights can enjoy the secure, academic spaces provided by the libraries. At the end of the fall semester, the Central Libraries will analyze the traffic during these extended hours and determine if the number of people utilizing the libraries justifies maintaining these hours into the future.
