What's New in Collection Development
Baylor University Libraries are excited to announce the addition of start-up funds for new faculty. For the last several years, Dr. Reagan Ramsower (Vice President for Finance and Administration) and Bill Hair (Interim Dean of Libraries) have been working on various ways to build funding for library resources. In working with the Budget Office, the Administration has created a plan that honors specific library material requests presented in faculty position requests and adds additional funds to the library materials budget to assist other new faculty arriving on campus. These funds are to be used specifically for ordering library materials during the first year. However, the funds are ongoing funds, which means that new faculty may request items with ongoing expenses, such as subscriptions to journals and online databases. Librarians will be consulting with new faculty and others in their corresponding departments to discuss the process for requesting materials with these new funds this fall.
The library budget for FY 06-07 received a 5% increase over the previous fiscal year. Budget allocations and subscription lists have been distributed to all departments. Recommendations for cancellation should be sent to library consultants
or Beth Tice
before May 26.
Baylor libraries have subscribed to WorldCat Collection Analysis, an electronic toolset that allows us to analyse our collection by subject, publication date, format, and other criteria. We can compare our collections to other libraries to see what titles we have that are unique and what titles others have that we don't have. Contact Ramona McKeown
