Access to Electronic Resources
The Baylor Libraries provide access to electronic resources and databases for current students, faculty, and staff, as well as visitors in the library. The licensing agreements with publishers specify that off-campus access to the electronic resources be limited to people who are currently employed by or enrolled at Baylor University. This authentication is handled through the use of a valid Bear ID. After students graduate or leave Baylor, their Bear ID and password will no longer work and they will no longer have off-campus access to the Baylor Libraries' electronic resources. Details on who can have off-campus access to electronic resources are available on this page. Below are some options available to students who have graduated from Baylor:
- Anyone physically present in the Baylor Libraries can use many library services. Most of the libraries' electronic resources are available from any public computer, and visitors may access the Internet through the Libraries' Visitor Internet Access process.
- If Baylor graduates are residents of Texas, we recommend that they affiliate with their local public library. Many of the databases available through the Baylor Libraries are purchased via the TexShare program. Anyone who uses a library that participates in TexShare should have off-site access to TexShare databases via their public library affiliation.
- Additionally, Texas residents can obtain a TexShare card from their public library which will allow them to check out materials from libraries (academic and public) throughout the state of Texas.
- If Baylor graduates live outside of Texas, many states have programs similar to the TexShare program, so they need to check with their local public library to see what database services are available. If alumni need assistance in finding these programs, they can use the Baylor Libraries' Ask a Librarian service for assistance.
- The Baylor Libraries also provide access to a number of high quality resources and databases that are freely accessible on the Internet.
- Through the Baylor Libraries digital collections, anyone can access resources from special collections and faculty and student research.
- Hundreds of journals -- scholarly and popular -- are also freely accessible at the Directory of Open Access Journals.
- Google Books, Google Scholar, and the Hathi Trust provide the ability to search for information in books and scholarly journals. Complete access to the full text is dependent on copyright.
