Classroom Performance System (CPS) is a student response system (also known as 'clickers') using wireless radio frequency connectivity. It gives instructors and students immediate feedback from the entire class and automates routine classroom activities like taking attendance and grading student work.
CPS uses response pads and a receiver to capture instant data from your students. This system is portable and easy to integrate into any classroom. The student response pads or "clickers" are small, handheld devices that allow students to answer questions or show attendance.
Baylor University has standardized with eInstruction, the developer of CPS, providing us with a site license for the software along with free lifetime upgrades. The response pads are purchased at a reduced cost by the students from the campus bookstore, and every faculty member who chooses to use CPS receives a free test kit that includes a receiver unit for use in the classroom.
Standardization provides many benefits to the University, and we are working closely with eInstruction to assist each of you in implementing CPS in the classroom. If you are already using another classroom response system in your classes you may continue to use it. While our standardization agreement does prevent other academic units from signing a standardization agreement with competing vendors, it does not prevent individual faculty members from using other classroom response systems.
Now, instead of trying to gauge the class' comprehension from one or two students, you can easily poll the entire class. Having real-time data gives you more control over your lectures, allowing you to adjust on the fly for each class as well as streamlining administrative tasks. Attendance and grading are automated and any data you collect can be streamed to Blackboard.
