Video Conferencing Design
Video conferencing presents unique challenges to designing an effective space. CTS coordinates design for videoconferencing, including experienced professionals from both on and off campus. The following design services for video conferencing are available from CTS:
Project management
Room layout and space planning
Room finishes consulting
Videoconferencing systems design
Equipment specification
Integration into existing video networks
Training
CTS offers training for both first-time users and those who have used the equipment before. The training occurs either before the actual event or just minutes prior to the event, depending on the users preference. The user receives basic training on video and/or audio controls, as well as tips on how to make the video or audio conference more successful.
Support
CTS will support your video or audio conference during all phases of the process, from assisting with the scheduling to providing on-site support the day of your conference. We'll be there every step of the way. Video conferences which require multi-point connections or have other special needs may require us to support the entire duration of the video conference. All users receive information on how to contact immediate support personnel in the event any problems arise. To schedule a video or audio conference, please complete a Video/Audio Conference Request Form. If you require a connection that involves more than two participants, you will also need to complete the Video Conference Bridge Reservation Form.
Feedback
CTS would like to hear from you. Let us know how your experience was by completing a short survey. You have the option to make your feedback annoynmous.
Other Conferencing services
The Baylor University Electronic Library also offers other conferencing services as listed below:
Cisco JabberVideo for Telepresence (Movi)
Cisco JabberVideo uses software on your personal computer along with a webcam and microphone to participate in a video conferencing call with any standards based video conferencing system. Having the software installed on your portable computer provides the freedom to connect with people, from any location with a good network connection, to another JabberVideo user, or to one of our on campus fixed systems. For more information, please click here.
Video Conference Bridging for Multi-Participant Connections
Baylor's video conferencing bridge (MCU) can currently accommodate up to 24 simultaneous video connections. The bridge is available on a first come, first serve basis and reservations are required to use the bridging service. Should you require a connection which involves more than two participants, please complete the Video Conference Bridge Reservation Form.
Satellite Downlink
CTS uses a satellite to connect to certain broadcasts for schools and organizations across campus. Once the user provides the satellite coordinates to the Electronic Library, the conference will be broadcast on cable channel 90 anywhere on the local campus.
Skype
Classroom Technology Services offers Skype support on a limited basis. Skype is available to all users on the Baylor network, and a pool of bandwidth has been set aside for its use, as well as other P2P applications. As you can imagine, this pool fills up very fast with the potential of hundreds or even thousands of users at any given time. Unfortunately, due to the inability of the Skype software to differentiate users, we cannot guarantee bandwidth and/or service. If you are interested in better quality service, we recommend our standards-based video conferencing services, as mentioned above. If your remote participant does not have access to one of these standards-based systems, we offer desktop video conferencing software called JabberVideo(Movi), also mentioned above. CTS also offers webcams with integrated microphones on a first come first serve basis.
Teleconferencing
CTS also offers teleconferencing services to users on campus. We have conferencing phones available and can host conference calls to multiple parties. To request audio conferencing services, please complete the Video/Audio Conference Request Form
To request conference services please complete the "Video/Audio Conference Request Form" above. If you have any questions, please contact Nils Holgersson at extension 1738 or Nils_Holgersson@baylor.edu.
