Training and supervision of student workers from outside departments. Students are trained in the use of specialized scanners and are provided technical support and troubleshooting by DPG staff.

Ingestion of digitized items into CONTENTdm for viewing on the Web at http://contentdm.baylor.edu

Equipment Capabilities of the DPG
Zeutschel book scanner: Ideal for fragile bound items and manuscripts up to 17" x 24". This scanner was used to scan Baylor at Independence and Waco University catalogues. It is currently being used to scan sheet music from the Spencer Collection.

Kirtas APT 2400: Automatic page turning imaging machine. It can scan up to 2400 pages per hour (when books are in good condition for automated scanning). It is currently being used to scan bound oral history memoirs and 19th century women poets books from ABL.

Flatbed scanners: Four (4) flatbed scanning stations available. One is equipped with an automatic document feeder, ideal for non-fragile, unbound items consisting of multiple pages.

Average speeds
Zeutschel: 20 pieces of Spencer sheet music per hour; rare items' scanning time varies depending on condition

Kirtas: 3 Oral History books or 4 ABL women poets books per hour

Flatbeds: Varies depending on item being scanned

Staffing by project/department
Spencer sheet music: 2 part-time student workers from DPG, average 6 hours per week each

Oral History: 2 students for a total of 15 hours per week working on 300 bound volumes

ABL Women Poets: 1 student for a total of 9 hours per week working on approx. 300 volumes

Texas Collection: 2 students for a total of 15 hours per week working on assorted print materials
