Dr. Ken Matthews is an outstanding educational leader, motivating children, modeling positive moral ethics, and empowering staff. For twenty-seven years, he has focused on educating the entire child (Mind, Body & Soul). His sincere interest in children and desire to help others with their journey to success keeps him focused on the main reasons he continues to serve, believing “Above All, Children First.”
Dr. Matthews works hard to ensure that every young child gains the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century. He partners with the community and staff to ensure "No Child is Left Behind." His strong conviction inthis belief statement inspires and encourages him to believe that all children can succeed if provided an equal opportunity.
A leader in education for numerous years, Dr. Matthews has developed innovative and responsive work teams and has received numerous educational awards such as Who’s Who in San Antonio Inc. and Principal of the Year for his persistence and diligence in educating children. He supports and motivates teachers by praising them and providing incentives for educational gains when student achievement increases. Additionally, parents are supported by inviting them to join in the success of their child. He clearly explains the expectations to ensure that students and staff are setting the highest standards. In 2000, he developed district policies to ensure all campuses disciplined students equally and effectively, improving consistency, administrative accountability, and cross-campus communication.
Dr. Matthews believes we must not retreat from the world in the face of increased competition, but instead we must prepare ourselves for the challenges ahead. Preparing students today for tomorrow’s challenges is not an easy task, therefore we must press on in the face of adversity. Over the years, many individuals have touched his life and helped him to set and obtain his goals while simultaneously inspiring him to pay it forward.
Born in Floresville, Texas, Dr. Matthews earned his Bachelor's degree from Baylor University in 1984, after which he moved his family to Houston, Texas where he first began practicing as a teacher. Dr Matthews earned a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Prairie View A & M and a Ed.D. in Educational Administration from Baylor University.
