State Bar Annual Meeting

On June 20, 2013, Judge Ken Starr, Dean Brad Toben, faculty members and Baylor Lawyers gathered at the Alumni Reception held in conjunction with the State Bar Annual Meeting in Houston. This reception was a resounding success, and we had the largest attendance of any alumni reception in many years! At the reception, Vincent Allen, JD '99, was announced as the 2012 Baylor Young Lawyer of the Year. Congratulations to Shannon Vincent Allen - you make us proud. Dean Toben also recognized our Baylor Law Alumni Association Executive Committee and thanked the 2011-2012 Executive Committee members led by President Traci Kenner, JD '87. Brad welcomed John Ginn, JD '89, 2012-2013 President of the Baylor Law Alumni Association. We look forward to another successful year under John Ginn's leadership.

Baylor Law Alumni Weekend

On November 16 & 17 over 200 folks joined us for the Baylor Law Alumni Weekend. Just a few highlights of the Alumni Weekend included a Friday Night Fiesta at the home of Judge & Mrs. Ken Starr, Burgers & Blue Bell at the home of Dean & Mrs. Brad Toben, breakfast at the Sheila and Walter Umphrey Law Center, a Baylor victory at the Baylor vs. Kansas State game! A big thank you to all who joined! Planning for Alumni Weekend 2013 is well underway. Mark your calendars now for October 4 & 5, 2013.

Baylor Lawyer of the Year

The Alumni Association honors the Baylor Lawyer of the Year at a luncheon in the honoree's hometown. The 2012 Baylor Lawyer of the Year is Hon. Leonard Davis, JD '76. On January 18, 2013, the Law School hosted a luncheon for Hon. Davis, his family and friends in Tyler, Texas. In his profession, community and university service, as well as in his family life, Hon. Davis embodies the criteria noted for this very significant honor of the Baylor Law Alumni Association. Hon. Davis is a model for us all in upholding the ideals of servant leadership.

Baylor Young Lawyer of the Year

The Baylor Young Lawyer of the Year is an alumnus/a selected on the same basis as the Baylor Lawyer of the Year, except the recipient must not reach the age 41 before January 1 of the award year. In 2012, the Alumni Association honored Vincent Allen, JD '99 as the Baylor Young Lawyer of the Year.

Homecoming Parade & Reception- October 19, 2013

A long-standing tradition of the Alumni Association is to host a Homecoming Reception at the old law school building, Morrison Hall. On Saturday, October 19, 2013 bring your family and friends to the reception and watch the Homecoming Parade pass down Fifth Street.

Commencement Receptions

Each year the Alumni Association sponsors four Commencement Receptions at the Sheila and Walter Umphrey Law Center. These receptions afford the graduates, families, friends and faculty a great way to celebrate this special day. This year the Alumni Association will mail reception invitations to the graduates' families and friends, so they can plan wisely for the celebration.

Graduation Gifts

As a congratulatory gift to each graduate, the Baylor Law Alumni Association waives the graduate's Alumni Association dues for the first year. This allows graduates to automatically become a member of the Baylor Law Alumni Association. President Traci Kenner writes a congratulatory letter to be included in each graduate's diploma scroll welcoming them to the Baylor Law Alumni Association.

Alumni Association Luncheons at Orientation

For several years, the Alumni Association Executive Committee have hosted a luncheon at each of the new student orientations. A member of the Executive Committee travel to Waco to welcome the entering classes to the legal profession and to our Law School. We look forward to continuing this tradition in 2012-2013.

Alumni Association Scholarship

The Alumni Association has an endowed annual scholarship that provides funds to outstanding students.

Baylor Law School publishes two alumni publications – The Docket Call, our alumni magazine, and The Rocket Docket, our alumni e-newsletter.
