Prof, students analyze poetry

Nov. 5, 2004

By MINDY FERGUSON, reporter

Dr. Tom Hanks, recipient of the first annual Cornelia Marschall Smith Professor of the Year Award, spoke Thursday afternoon in a lecture titled "It's Called a Teaching Award -- but I Don't Teach."

Hanks, a Baylor English professor, told his audience of students and faculty members he prefers a "nonteaching" approach to teaching. He said most college classes are taught in a traditional lecture style with a professor speaking for 70 minutes and at the end asking for questions, which, according to Hanks, there are none.
