Found right off South Eighth Street past Clay Street, Noches Tejanos boasts some of the best Mexican food in Waco.
The staff and family members welcome guests to their restaurant as soon as they pass through the door.
Adelia Salinas, the main owner and a Baylor graduate, will chat with customers at their tables as they feast on fresh-made chips and warm salsa.
Noches Tejanos offers patrons mouthwatering Tex-Mex cuisine in large portions. The Mexican platter comes with a tamale, enchilada, taco, rice and beans ($7.95).
Adelia Salinas recommends the chicken sour cream enchiladas ($6.75). Other items to try are the fajitas ($8.95 for one), the shrimp quesadillas ($9.89) or the lunch buffet (6.95), where you can try a little bit of everything. For patrons not craving Mexican food, they have the Sam Brown burger ($6.95) and the chicken fried steak ($7.48).
During Lent, they will offer fried catfish on Fridays and by this summer, they will be serving smoked steaks and barbecue outside.
The restaurant is owned and run by the Salinas Family. Salinas continues to teach first grade at Bell's Hill Elementary School while managing the restaurant. Her husband, Ralph Salinas, helps her close at night and is responsible for all the brick work inside and outside of the restaurant.
Her son, Joseph Salinas, manages Noches Tejanos on the weekends, and her daughter, Elizabeth who is also a Baylor graduate, works weekends too.
The atmosphere at Noches Tejanos is quite relaxing with slow music and soft white lights wrapped around the restaurant. There is also a rock cascade waterfall in the back and front of the restaurant.
Arches with murals line the back wall and a variety of potted foliage wraps around the television and the front entrance.
The outside of the restaurant takes you behind a brick wall into an area where there is a dance floor, stage, gas fire pits, restrooms and a gazebo.
For the delicious, fresh food, friendly service, unique d+cor and a relaxing, welcoming atmosphere, Noches Tejanos gets four out of four paws.
