Bears defeated at Miss. State
The No. 15-ranked Baylor men's tennis team fell to 0-2 on the spring season Saturday with a 4-3 defeat at the hands of No. 17-ranked Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss.
Csongor Bibza and Matias Marin both won their singles matches in three sets, while Cory Ross claimed the No. 6 singles match in straight sets over Luiz Carvalho.
The Baylor track teams had strong finishes in the Southwest Indoor Classic this weekend in Houston.
On the men's side, No. 8-ranked Baylor finished second, while the No. 20-ranked women's team took home fifth place. The University of Texas won both team titles.
In men's individual events, Baylor's 4x400-meter relay team of Brandon Couts, Zsolt Szeglet, Bayano Kamani and Floyd Thompson torched the field with a time of 3:11.26, good for an NCAA provisional mark. Kamani also won the 400 meters in 47.80 seconds.
Jon Capron took the mile run in 4:17.73, while Thompson was a tenth of a second slower in the 800 meters, Matt Chance finished second in the 3,000 meters.
For the Baylor women, Rachel Roessler was second with a throw of 13.61 meters in the shot put, and Lanie Millar ran the 800 meters in 2:15.53 to claim third place. Baylor returns to action Saturday in the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
