The Baylor men's tennis team fared well in the Rice University Invitational tournament Saturday in Houston.

Freshman Cory Ross defeated Mike Leonard of Texas Christian University in the 'C' singles bracket 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 before advancing to the semifinals, where he battled Khaleed El Dorry of Texas A&M University. El Dorry defeated Ross 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

'I definitely earned the wins that led to the semis,' Ross said, 'but the loss to A&M just fired me up for my next match against them.'

Senior Csongor Bibza won both preliminary matches, advancing to the quarterfinals in the 'B' singles bracket before he fell to Jarin Skube of Texas A&M 6-4, 6-4.

Sophomore Sean O'Connor advanced to the quarter finals as well, eventually losing to Nathan Price of Texas A&M 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Singles consolation results were: Reiner Neurohr defeated by University of Arkansas-Little Rock's Dominico Marra 6-4, 6-3; and Nathan McGregor defeated University of Louisiana-Lafayette's Bobby Hawkins 6-2, 6-4, but lost his quarterfinal match by default.

All three doubles teams won their opening round matches, then head Coach Matt Knoll withdrew them from play.

'We withdrew because we need to stay healthy and prioritize the upcoming SMU matches,' Knoll said.

The Bears play tonight against Southern Methodist University at 8 p.m. in Dallas.
