A 52-year-old homeless man remained in critical condition at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center Wednesday after being injured in a hit-and-run accident Tuesday evening. He was reportedly hit while standing on the side of the road.

Sgt. Larry Murphy of the Waco Police Department said the accident happened at 7:36 p.m. at the intersection of Fourth and Clay Streets. He said no arrests have been made.

He said the injured man, Freddie King, identified the vehicle as a red pickup, but Murphy cautioned that King's testimony may change due to the pain he was experiencing.

Murphy said that in cases like this the police do several things to identify the vehicle such as working with the victim and looking for matching debris. He also said that sometimes the drivers in hit and run accidents turn themselves in when they realize what may have occurred.

Anyone with information about the incident may contact Sgt. Murphy at 750-7500.
