Homeless man reportedly hit by automobile
A 52-year-old transient was a victim of an apparent hit-and-run Wednesday night at the intersection of Fourth and Clay streets.
Jean Rose of Madison, Wis. said she was driving down Fourth Street with her sister Julie Hurstman about 8 p.m. when she saw the man lying on the side of the road. They turned around and got out of their car and heard him calling for help.
Rose said the man told her that a truck hit him and sped down Fourth Street.
The sisters then went to a nearby home where they asked Brett Swartz to call 911.
Swartz said emergency teams arrived in 'about 15 seconds.'
The man was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center with apparent head injuries and respiratory problems.
