BU to honor science donor
Baylor will honor the W.M. Keck Foundation's gifts to the science department at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the foyer of the Sid Richardson Science Building.
The foundation recently donated $500,000 to the department to purchase lab equipment. Its previous gifts have helped pay for improvements including additional lab courses, an electron microscope, a seismological observatory and an automated library system.
The Keck Foundation was established by William Myron Keck, founder of the Superior Oil Company. Since its inception in 1954, the foundation has donated more than $875 million.
Student government is hosting Scholar Bowl at 7 p.m. every Thursday in the Fentress room of the Bill Daniel Student Center.
Scholar Bowl is a trivia competition similar to Quiz Bowl. Teams of four to six students can enter for $25.
The final round of competition will take place at Diadeloso in April. For more information, contact the student government office at 710-2369.
The first cyclist meeting for students interested in Bear Downs takes place 8:30 Wednesday in 116 Draper. Student Foundation will sponsor the 30th annual Bear Downs April 19. The race consists of four-member teams that bike a 30-mile relay around a 1-mile loop of the Baylor campus.
Members of the faculty and staff will be rewarded for years of service at the annual Service Awards Ceremony at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Barfield Drawing Room in the Bill Daniel Student Center.
Faculty and staff are recognized for their service in five-year increments with pins, brooches and certificates. Outstanding Staff Rewards will be given to eight staff members, and one member of the faculty or staff will receive the Baylor Plus Award.
