Baylor's ministry guidance program will host the President's Doctrinal Conference from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. today in the Hughes-Dillard Alumni Center.

'This is really a continuation of something that has been going on for years by the ministry guidance program in an effort to provide continuing education to ministers and pastors around this area,' President Robert B. Sloan Jr. said. Sloan will also serve as the conference leader and will speak about 'Freedom and God's Sovereignty,' as he plans to address such issues as God's love, sovereignty, grace and providence and the human response to God's grace.

'I will discuss the New Testament themes of the election, predestination and foreknowledge from the Biblical perspective, which for many people are very controversial,' Sloan said. 'My goal is that I want to show that perhaps they are not as controversial as some people make them.'

Sloan has served as conference leader since 1999.

Dr. Jeter Basden, associate professor of religion and coordinator of continuing education for ministers, said the purpose of the conference is to assist church and denominational leaders as they give leadership to this doctrinal study in their churches.

'We're delighted to provide this kind of opportunities to the community's religious leaders,' Basden said.
