Volleyball team off to visit Tech

The Baylor volleyball team (12-7 overall, 5-5 in the Big 12 Conference) takes on Texas Tech University at 7 p.m. Saturday.

This will be the first match of the second rotation on the conference schedule for Baylor and a test of the ability of the Bears to continue their winning season.

Baylor won the first match of the season against the Red Raiders last month in Waco by a count of 6-15, 15-9, 15-11, 15-12.

But, the Raiders still pose a threat to Baylor.

Texas Tech's record stands at an impressive 16-4 overall and 5-4 in the Big 12 heading into tonight's match with cellar-dwelling Iowa State University.

The Red Raiders also stole a game from the No. 1-ranked University of Nebraska but lost the match in four games. It was the first time that Nebraska has lost a conference game all season.

Baylor will have to keep a handle on Texas Tech's 6-foot-7-inch outside hitter Colleen Smith. She racked up 30 kills and heavily contributed to Tech's performance in the first meeting.

Baylor is also strong on the outside, and freshman outside hitter Stevie Nicholas performed well Tuesday night against Texas Christian University. She led the Bears with 19 kills and a .406 hitting percentage.

The offensive firepower will be strong on both sides of the net.
