Top-10 finishes for cross country

Both the Baylor men's and women's cross country teams had top-10 performances over the weekend at the Chili Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.

The women's team finished fourth out of 25 teams, while the men claimed eighth place.

Kara Newton was ninth individually with a time of 21:43, and teammate Stephanie Bennett was 10th, six seconds behind on the 6,000 meter course.

For the men, Ferenc Bekesi completed the 10,000 meter course in a time of 31:25, good for 31st place overall. Matt Chance was second for Baylor and 60th overall with time of 32:21.

The event was the final tuneup for the Bears before they compete in the Big 12 Conference Championships.

That meet will be held Oct. 28 in Boulder, Colo.
