4th Street post office to open next semester

Students who use the Baylor post office on Fifth Street for their mailing needs will soon have to change their route. As of next spring, the post office on Fifth Street will close and the new post office will open on Fourth and Clay streets, west of Interstate 35.

Laura Harris, a Nashville, Tenn., senior, is frustrated with the relocation. Harris, who is planning her wedding, recently received several packages from her mother.

'I'm not enthused about the distance,' Harris said. 'Right now I can just walk to the post office to get my packages. It will be a hassle to have to drive across the highway.'

The new facility is scheduled to open by April 2000, according to Steve Kincer, manager of corporate relations for the U.S. Postal Service in Waco. The new post office will offer more services to its patrons, such as a postal store for buying packing material and a traditional mail counter for sending certified letters and packages.
