AIDS Awareness Week: Chapel PresentationNov. 17, 1997
A former Miss Hawaiian Tropic model who contracted the AIDS virus will speak during Chapel-Forum Monday.
LaGena Lookabill Greene, the first Miss Hawaiian Tropic model, was featured in magazines such as Glamour, People and Seventeen.
Because of her job responsibilities, she traveled around the world. When she discovered in 1986 that she had contracted the HIV virus from her boyfriend of six years, her hopes of becoming an actress dwindled.
Today Greene talks to people all over the nation. She discusses faith in God, abstinence and HIV/AIDS prevention as well as unconditional love for all people with AIDS.
Her story has been followed by 60 Minutes and The Today Show.
She will also speak at a brown-bag lunch in Barfield Drawing Room at noon Monday in the Bill Daniel Student Center
