Wind ensemble takes center stage Tuesday

Nov. 17, 1997

Incorporating winter music and a military band, the wind ensemble will perform Tchaikovsky's little-known 'Dance of the Jesters' from the ballet The Snow Maidens in a military band style.

The Baylor University Wind Ensemble will present its second concert of the 1997-98 season at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in Jones Concert Hall.

The university's wind ensemble is directed by Michael Haithcock, director of bands and professor of conducting.

Guest conductors will lead various songs.

Jeffrey Grogan, director of the Golden Wave Marching Band and associate director of bands, will lead the ensemble in a performance of Gustav Holst's Hammersmith: Prelude and Scherzo.

Grogan will also conduct the first arrangement, Felix Mendelssohn's Overture for Winds.
