Coogs' thump Bears, 12-5

The Houston Cougar pitching shut down the Baylor Bear baseball team by holding them to five runs on nine hits Wednesday night at Ferrell Field, going home with a 12-5 victory.
After three scoreless innings the Cougars jumped out to a three run lead in the fourth inning.
Cougar pitcher Scott McCloud held the Bears to just one run in his six innings of work. McCloud struck out nine and allowed six hits against the Bears.
The Cougars took advantage of the Bears in the top of the seventh inning. Houston scored four runs in the inning two of which crossed the plate on a throwing error.
In the bottom of the seventh inning the Bears threatened to come back. With one out, senior first baseman and co-captain Steve Reintjes scored on a wild pitch after junior shortstop Eric Boisjoly hit into a fielders choice.
The next batter that came to the plate, sophomore Jon Topolski, hit a two run home run over the center field wall. The home run put the score at 8-4.
The Bears' freshman designated hitter, Jason Jennings hit a solo blast in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Baylor their fifth and final run of the ball game.
The Cougars scored one run in the eighth inning and three runs in the ninth to put the game out of reach with the final score of 12-5.
The Bears will play a three game conference series against the University of Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kans. starting Friday.
