Stein Mart, located on West Waco Drive, is one of many new businesses to open in Waco.

Business in Waco is booming. Several new businesses throughout town have opened up or are in the process of being built.
Stein Mart is another national chain that opened a Waco store on West Waco Drive.
'We are very excited to be in Waco,' said store manager Tammy Smith.
This department store offers men's and women's clothing, women's accessories, linens, shoes and gift items at 25 to 30 percent less than Dillards or Foley's.
'We buy in bulk and don't use vendor advertising,' said Smith. 'That is how we can charge such low prices.'
Smith went on to say that the biggest challenge the store faces is overcoming the 'Mart' in their name. People associate them with Kmart or Wal-Mart.
SteinMart opened the Waco store because of the high number of shoppers from Waco who visit their Dallas and Fort Worth stores and because Waco's population is more than 100,000.
*The Courtyard by Marriott
The Courtyard opens its doors to guests this weekend. It is located behind the Hilton on University Parks Drive and Franklin Avenue. The 153-room hotel features six suites, a cafe that serves breakfast and a lounge for evening beverages. There is also a heated outdoor pool, covered whirlpool and coin-operated laundry, said Karen Kostecky, general manager. Each room has a coffee maker, full size ironing board and iron, a complimentary copy of USA Today, HBO and Pay-Per-View movies.
The Cineplex on Valley Mills will open in the fall of 1997. The Cineplex is slated to be a 16-screen state of the art theater.
*On the Border
On the Border, a Mexican food restaurant, is currently under construction on the corner of New Road and Waco Drive.
This restaurant recently started interviewing employees and should be opening in the next few weeks. It is on the first floor of River Square Center next to Diamond Back's. The menu will include, among other items, over 100 beers on draft.
