For students preparing to enter the career world, a University center wants to help.

The Career Services Center is sponsoring the 1996 Career 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 18 in the Marrs McLean Gymnasium.

Mock interview days are Sept. 19 and 20.

Pam Doherty, coordinator of the fair, said the Career Center wants students of all majors to attend. Nearly 70 companies from fields such as banking and government offices, to health and nonprofit groups will attend the fair. Recruiters from companies such as Exxon, Texas Instruments, Travis County Sheriff's Department, Perot Systems and Nations Bank will be present.

'If you are graduating in December, May, August, or are even a freshman or sophomore who is undecided on a major, this will help make a decision on a major,' Doherty said.

After the career fair, Carolyn Muska , a Career Center employee, is coordinating the mock interview days. Recruiters from companies such as Texas Commerce Bank, HEB Grocery and Enterprise Rent-A-Car are conducting mock interviews.

Students participate in a one-hour, generic interview, Muska said. A video camera is set up in each interview room, and students are taped for 20 to 30 minutes and then critiqued by the recruiter on what their strengths and weaknesses are.

Sign-up sheets for a limited number of times are located in the Career Center. 'These interviews give you an idea of what to expect in an interview situation,' Muska said. Professional dress is required, along with several copies of one's resume, and a blank tape for the mock interview.
