Viewers watching KWBU-TV, a public television station in Waco that broadcasts education shows locally on a PBS station, were in for quite a surprise Sunday night. Around 6:40 p.m. on Sunday evening, during "My Music: '50s Pop Parade," viewers witnessed an estimated five-second flash of adult programming.
Interim General Manager of KWBU Clare Paul said everyone who called the station after the incident occurred received the station's after-hours phone answering machine.
"We received about eight calls Sunday night to our answering service, but that's about it," Paul said.
Membership manager of KWBU Loretta Howard said only three callers left their names, and only two callers left call-back numbers.
"Mainly they were wondering what happened, that there was some kind of questionable image that flashed on the screen for a few seconds," Howard said. "I spoke with one of the (complainants) and she seemed fine with it. She just wanted to make sure we were aware of the situation."
Officials from both KWBU and Time Warner Cable have looked over programming logs and feeds on Monday morning to try to figure out what could've been the cause of the incident. Paul said that few callers actually said whether or not they were watching KWBU through a satellite or cable television subscription or over the air. However, the information they did give suggested that most viewers were subscribers of Time Warner Cable in the Temple area.
A representative from Time Warner Cable was not immediately available for comment.
