Personal fitness is an important part of college life; however, often times, new students can find it hard to balance fitness and busy class schedules.
With more than 300 students already enrolled in Bearobics, the campus health, human performance and recreation department is providing a new program for freshman called Baylor F-I-T (Freshman in Training) Program. This program introduces the idea of healthy living and educates new students on the proper way to use the McLane Student Life Center workout equipment.
For $10, freshmen are encouraged to complete the program's five steps-- a fitness orientation session, one peer nutrition education program, one Bearobics class, a fitness assessment session and attend one "Live Well...Learn Well" Week presentation (Sept. 17-20).
After registration, the student receives a fitness card. Each time a step is completed, a SLC official marks off the specific category off. Upon completion of all five steps, the student is awarded a T-shirt, workout towel and water bottle- not to mention a better knowledge and outlook on fitness and nutrition.
"The price is very affordable," Tomball freshman Melissa Clary said. "I know a lot of people that would love the prizes." Clary said she works out at the SLC regularly. She said this program is exciting and hopes all freshmen will want to take part in learning about and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
"Nutrition is such a huge part in beating the freshman 15," Van Davis, SLC fitness coordinator, said. She said it is important to note, "the weight scale does not tell you where you are in size." She said she encourages all freshmen to jump on this new opportunity.
Registration for the F-I-T program is available at the SLC front desk until Sept. 14.
