Welcome to the LAC
The Language Acquisition Center serves the students and faculty of the
Department of Modern Foreign Languages. The facility is located in Suite
300 on the third floor of the Draper
Academic Building. A model for computer-assisted language learning centers, the LAC is frequently visited by language professionals from other universities.
The LAC provides state-of-the-art support for modern language instruction. The LAC helps students and faculty by
supplementing regular classroom teaching with multimedia applications and
materials. Students can use the computers in the labs to listen to audio
programming and view instructional video materials. Three multimedia
instructor stations are provided for professors, who may monitor student
progress or use the facility for oral testing.
The Language Acquisition Center houses a recording studio with scanning
equipment, a group viewing area with LCD projection, links to foreign TV
broadcasts via satellite, and a web camera system for videoconferencing. In
addition, software programs are available for conducting research using
internet sources
The Language Acquisition Center is an international arm of Baylor
University. The facilities in the labs provide the tools necessary for
students to master foreign languages. Learning another language can lead to
exciting careers and open doors of opportunity around the globe. In the
words of LAC Director Bill Dooley, "We consider language skills to be a
gateway to the world."
