Making Science Cool: Girl Genius STEM Conference
Women are largely underrepresented in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), comprising only 25 percent of the workforce in those fields. The Girl Scouts of Central Texas and Texas State Technical College are trying to change that figure. At the first ever Girl Genius STEM Conference held in Waco, they teamed up to offer a day of hands-on workshops to make STEM more accessible to girls and breakdown stereotypes that might prevent them from trying out these fields.
Pack of Hope
The economic crisis that has hit the nation affects Texas everyday. 25 percent of children in our state suffer from food insecurity. McLennan County is an area which has been hit harder than most. However, for a small portion of these children there is hope. Adam Harris reports for KWBU FM.
Cain Looks Ahead To Public Feedback In Potential Campus Closings
Yesterday on KWBU, we heard part one of a conversation with Waco ISD superintendent Bonny Cain, who suggested to the board last month that up to 8 schools be closed to help cover a 3.4 million dollar budget shortfall next year. Continuing today, Dr. Cain talks to KWBU's Derek Smith about the process of determining what will be cut and how the public can be involved.
