As long as we've had our present tower location, we've known there are significant issues with KWBU's signal. Reception is choppy around Lakeshore Drive, north through Bosqueville, the airport, and China Spring, and occasionally throughout McLennan County.
We've made inquiries with the FCC and we know that there is no possibility of getting approval to increase our power on 103.3-FM, and there are no other frequencies available for us in this area. But, if we can relocate our tower, we are confident we'll be able to maximize our signal and improve reception in northern and western Waco.
Last year we hired The Broadcast Works! engineering firm to study the problem and guide us toward a solution. The studies investigated the effects of McLennan County's terrain on our signal, and possible locations to move our antenna.
We've concluded that the best option would be to relocate to a tower owned by American Tower Corporation located at the intersection of Highways 6 and 84 -- right in front of Providence Hospital. As of April of this year, a space has become available and we are eager to make the move.
Based on the signal strength study and census data, Broadcast Works estimates we'll be able to improve reception for approximately 27% of McLennan County's population.
