"If I could be a student again, I'd be more connected... And I'd slow down," Ginger Porter said in her presentation to the Baylor chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) meeting on April 24.

Porter, a Baylor alumna and managing director for GolinHarris’ Dallas office, told her personal story, shared ideas and fielded questions from Baylor students.

She graduated from Baylor in 1991 and immediately entered the workplace as a communication professional, eventually landing a position in 2001 with the Golin Harris, which has a regional office in Dallas, Texas.

Porter specifically discussed the transformation that her agency has undergone to stay current with the rise of digital media channels. Her agency now assigns employees to four core areas: insights, ideas, integration and engagement. She gave the students a brief survey to determine where their strengths lie in relation to these specialties.

"Listening to Mrs. Porter inspired me to strive for the same greatness and passion she has found," said Courtney Clark, a Baylor sophomore. "It's awesome to see someone who started in the same place I did accomplish so much in her career."

Laura Beth Moore, the newly elected Baylor PRSSA president, will be interning at Golin Harris with Porter this summer. Moore attended a PRSSA agency tour in the fall and was invited back for a week to job shadow at the agency over spring break.

"What an honor to have Baylor alumna and director of the GolinHarris Texas branch, Ginger Porter, speak with us Thursday evening," Moore said. "Ginger captures a room with her enthusiasm for GolinHarris and the G4 model, their creative approach to management structure. Personally I am beyond thrilled to intern at the GolinHarris Texas branch this summer and fully engage with the G4 model."

Several students inquired of Porter how a student could gain an internship with Golin Harris. According to the Golin Harris website those interested in applying for a U.S. internship should check the company's Career Opportunities or contact the office of interest directly.
