Hand-on experience is keyBy: Amanda Tolentino, News-Editorial
Waco – Texas Each day for Amanda Hill is the never same. She manages social media, writes and edits for the online blog for the Texas Farm Bureau. She is also the associate editor for the Texas Farm Bureau.
A native from Richardson, Texas, Hill graduated from Baylor in journalism – public relations in May 2006. Hill found that her internship at Baylor helped pave the way for her career. During her four years at Baylor, Hill had the opportunity to intern with the Baylor Media Relations department.
She encourages students to intern throughout their college years, which she said she believes helped her to "gain experience in the work place," especially now that media markets are more competitive than ever. The best way for people to learn is "by getting their hands dirty," she said.
Professor Maxey Parrish knew her as an advisee and a remarkable student. "Her father is a notable figure in PRSA," said Parrish. He also commented that she is a good writer who knows and understands the public relations industry.
A member of Alpha Chi Omega and president of the Baylor PRSSA her senior year, Amanda began her public relations career in Dallas with Fleishman-Hillard International Communications where she served as senior account executive for two years. She will be receiving her MBA in July 2012 from the University of Texas – Austin.
Not only is Hill actively involved at the Texas Farm Bureau, but she enjoys "seeing changes and affecting change." Working in public relations for Hill is her passion because it is exciting and things are new all the time. She has been working at the Texas Farm Bureau for four years and hopes to remain there for many years to come.
