Pierre Hjartberg, class of 1957, shared this note: "I am a native of Sweden. Came to Baylor as a sophomore after spending my Freshman year at Northeastern in Boston. Worked that summer at a camp on Cape Cod and there were some fellow counselors from Baylor there. I came to Baylor, got a scholarship and was under the guidance of Dr. Guy Newman, then a VP. Ended up with a double major - history and journalism. Served as an Issue Editor and columnist of the Lariat for two years and my friends said that the name of the column was most appropriate - Much about Nothing. I later met my wife at Baylor, Kay McCullough from Ft. Worth, who was a freshman when I was a junior. We have now been married for 55 years. Dr. Charles Wellborn - for whom we bought a brick at the new stadium - performed the service at Broadway Baptist in Ft. Worth. I also served as a Yell Leader my junior year and Head Yell Leader my Senior year when we beat TN 13-7 here in New Orleans as the Sugar Bowl. After Baylor I managed chambers of commerce in Beeville, TX; Pomona, CA; Hartford, CT for about 24 years and then entered the travel business here in New Orleans. I handled the largest Baylor alumni group - some 110 - on a Scandinavian Cruise with Dr. Charles Wellborn as the lecturer. It was a great trip which included Bergen and Oslo, Norway; Copenhagen, Denmark; Helsinki, Finland; St. Petersburg, Russia and Kiel, Germany. I have recently worked with Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours on various WWII groups including the 60th Anniversary of D-Day in 2004. Baylor meant/means a lot to me and I am proud to be a graduate."
