History & Archives
The Center was founded in 1999 and held its inaugural conference in November 2000. Since that time, we have focused on Jewish Studies in a sustained and diverse way but have also emphasized diversity in world religions and ethnic communities. Our history is found within the programs that are found here, but also in the many conversations that come within the official programs. For the first 5 years of our existence, the Center had its home within the Church-State Studies department. Now we have a new and expanded home with our own offices and events/seminar room. Our library collection, started in 2002, features more than 3000 volumes and is also housed in our new space.
For the past ten years we have been sponsoring an Annual Holocaust Memorial Luncheon at Truett Seminary, now in conjunction with the Kyle Lake Center for Effective Preaching.
In recent years we have hosted numerous events, guest speakers and major international gatherings. These international gatherings include: Abraham Joshua Heschel at 100, Hannah Arendt in the 21st Century: A Global Discourse, Interfaith Journey on the Road to Liberation in the 21st Century and On the Border: HoweverWhereverWhomever.
Our plans continue to expand as the support of Baylor University and our donor base increases. This year we will be sponsoring a major conference on the Apostle Paul and the possibility of reimagining him as an apostle to the conquered nations, Jews and the other nations struggling under Roman rule. Stay tuned!
