Ireland Tour 2006

Come join us in June 2006 for a magical trip to Ireland! The Baylor Libraries are sponsoring “Ireland Illuminated,” an 11-day tour on the Emerald Isle to feast on the beautiful scenery and drink in the wonders around every hill and street corner.

Led by Dr. Sarah-Jane Murray, the tour will headquarter in Dublin and Galway, and day trips will be taken around the country. Dr. Murray, a native of Ireland, is assistant professor of medieval literature and French in the Great Texts Program at Baylor. A highlight of the trip will be to view and learn about illuminated manuscripts in the libraries and museums of Ireland.

Day trips from Dublin include a day in County Meath to explore the prehistoric site at Newgrange and the Celtic crosses at Monasterboice; a train ride to Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland; and a day in Glendalough, Wicklow and Waterford, the home of the world-renown crystal maker. Dublin’s cathedrals, museums and artisan shops are also on the itinerary.

From Galway day trips include a cruise down the River Corrib, a medieval banquet at Dunguaire Castle and a morning at the Cliffs of Moher. Tour members will have plenty of time for shopping, sightseeing and enjoying the local culture.
