Around 1:00 pm Thursday, ITS received notification that there were networking issues in the following areas: Dutton Offices, Robinson Tower and Dallas Nursing.
Outage was due to a faulty fiber card in the router. Ports had to be moved to a different card. The three facilities were back and running around 1:30 p.m. A quick scan of the network revealed that two more networks had gone down, which included Pat Neff. Those facilities were back on line by 1:45 p.m.
At this point, there is no reason as to why the portion of the card failed. It does show to be a common segment of this one card. Enterasys is currently engaged, and we are looking at the solution. Most likely, this card will need to be replaced, which will require a window of time when a scheduled network outage can be done.
