Hints from the Helpline-Filter Keys

Jan. 1, 2003

by Donna Herbert

If your Dell keyboard has suddenly slowed down or makes a clicking noise when you type, FilterKeys may be activated. FilterKeys is a keyboard feature that instructs the keyboard to ignore brief or repeated keystrokes. FilterKeys allows you to slow the rate at which a key repeats when you hold it down.

If the Use shortcut check box in the Settings for FilterKeys is selected, you can turn FilterKeys on or off by holding down the right Shift key for 8 to 16 seconds. To find these settings, click on the Start button, select Settings, then select Control Panel, and open Accessibility Options.
