Are You Ready for Office 2007?
May 30, 2007
It is now available from ITS! Here are some answers to questions you may have about Office 2007:
Who can get Office 2007?
Office 2007 is available for installation on all faculty, staff, and student worker departmental computers through our Microsoft Campus Agreement. Work at Home Rights for Office 2007 will be available for purchase through the Bookstore for all eligible faculty and staff and all Baylor students. Even if you purchased Office 2003 in the past, you can now purchase Office 2007 as a new upgrade.
When can I get Office 2007?
If you are getting a new computer, it will be installed automatically beginning June 1. If you are not ready to make the move to Office 2007, you will have the option to stay on Office 2003.
To install it on your current system, you must have a minimum of 1 GB of RAM. Select "System" under the Control Panel to obtain this information.
If your computer will be replaced this fiscal year, it may be beneficial for you to wait for your new computer. We recommend not installing Office 2007 on any computer less than a GX260 (GX240s and below) and a C640 (C610s and below).
If you decide to purchase additional memory, the estimated cost to your department for desktop memory will be $40 to $150, and for notebook memory $30 to $200, depending on the type, size and amount of memory needed. Contact the Help Desk to make a request for more memory.
How do I Download Office 2007?
Office 2007 will be available for download from Baylor's Software Installers. However, before you upgrade, we strongly suggest that you attend one of the "New Features" seminars in order to make the transition easier. New seminars will be available after June 1. Once you have created documents in Office 2007, you cannot switch back. Departments may want to consider upgrading the entire department at one time. We will be glad to work with your departmental Technology Director or IT Liaison to arrange the installation. Please call the Help Line to make a request.
What if I want to wait for Office 2007?
If you choose not to upgrade at this time, you can download a compatibility tool that allows you to share files between versions 2003 and 2007. You can download the tool from Baylor's Software Installers.
Changes to the new version of the Office suite can be found at Office 2007.
