Since the Apple battery recall is handled on an individual basis, we are requesting that all clients follow the directions for obtaining a new battery from the Dell website. Clients can call the Help Desk for assistance, but the procedure is easy to do.
Information about the Apple Battery Exchange Program for the iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 can be found at http://support.apple.com/batteryprogram
. The website provides information about the program such as how to identify what battery models are affected, and how to request a battery exchange if needed. If your battery model and the first 5-digits of the battery's 12-digit serial number range is not listed, your battery is not affected and no further action is required. If your battery model is listed and the first 5 digits of the battery's serial number falls within the range listed on the website, you can submit both the computer and battery serial number information to have a replacement battery sent directly to you. In most cases, you can find the computer serial number by following the procedure at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106486
. The battery serial number will need to be taken directly from the battery. If a replacement is required, Apple will ship a replacement battery with a prepaid return shipping label. You will need to package the recalled battery and send it back to Apple.
