The Baylor University Electronic Library is introducing Blackboard 7, the newest version of the popular online teaching tool Blackboard. This new version provides both students and faculty with new features to enhance the learning experience. One of these new features is the ability to synchronize Blackboard courses with a program called Blackboard Backpack.
Blackboard Backpack is a mobile learning application that allows students to stay up-to-date with their Blackboard courses even when they are not connected to the Internet. Once Blackboard's content is downloaded into Blackboard Backpack, students can take it anywhere with them. Some features of the software include the ability to annotate documents posted by faculty and the ability to take electronic notes during a live lecture within the program. Blackboard Backpack also includes an integrated calendar and time-management system. Additionally, students can download course materials from Blackboard and create their own content while keeping track of due dates, tests, and tasks they need to accomplish. Blackboard Backpack is easy to use, convenient, and most importantly, as mobile as the students are!
The Blackboard Backpack software is available for download now. Students can download a free 30-day trial of the software at http://backpack.blackboard.com. Students who download the software before February 24th will be entered in a contest to win an Apple iPod. After the 30-day trial students can purchase the software for $49.95. In addition, students who purchase the software before February 24th will also receive a $10 discount.
Training and software demonstration sessions will be offered in Moody Library G32 on January 18th beginning every hour from 12:00 - 5:00 pm and again from 6:00 - 10:00 pm. Students who attend one of these sessions will be registered to win a free copy of Blackboard Backpack and also eligible to win the Apple iPod.
