Web Browsers

1. How do I change my pop-up blocker settings?
Generally you want pop-up blockers to be off so that you are not continually bombarded with ads. However, some systems require pop-up blockers to be on in order to view information. Here are instructions for changing the settings for your pop-up blocker:

Internet Explorer 10: Click on the "gear" icon in the top right corner and select "Internet Options." Select the Privacy tab and the pop-up blocker settings are near the bottom of the window. Check the box to prevent pop-ups from appearing. Uncheck the box to allow pop-ups.

Safari: Click on the "Safari" menu and select "Preferences." In the Preferences box, select the "Security" tab. Place a check beside the option to prevent pop-ups from appearing. Uncheck to allow pop-ups.

Firefox: Click on the icon with three horizontal lines located in the upper right-hand corner of the window and select "Options." Select "Content" from the navigation pane on the left side of the window. The pop-up blocker settings are near the middle of the window. Check the box to prevent pop-ups from appearing. Uncheck the box to allow pop-ups.

Chrome: Click on the icon with three horizontal lines located in the upper right-hand corner of the window and select "Settings." Scroll to the bottom and click on "Show advanced settings...". Locate the "Privacy" section and click on the "Content Settings..." button. The pop-up settings are located in the middle of the window. Select whether to allow or block pop-ups and click the "Done" button at the bottom of the page.

2. How do I clear cookies and/or temporary internet files?
Internet Explorer 10: Click on the "gear" icon in the top right corner and select "Internet Options." Select the General tab and look for the "Browsing history" section. Click on the "Delete" button. On the next screen you can select what you would like to delete, i.e. temporary internet files, cookies, history, etc.

Safari: Click on the "Safari" menu. Select "Empty Cache" and then click the "Empty" button.

Firefox: Click on the icon with three horizontal lines located in the upper right-hand corner of the window and select "Options." Select "Privacy" from the navigation pane on the left side of the window. In the "History" section look for the option to "clear all current history" and click on it. A window will appear letting you choose what you want to clear.

Chrome: Click on the icon with three horizontal lines located in the upper right-hand corner of the window and select "Settings." Scroll to the bottom and click on "Show advanced settings...". Locate the "Privacy" section and click on the "Clear browsing data..." button. Select what you would like to delte and click the "Clear Browsing Data" button at the bottom of the page.

3. How do I set a default web browser?
Internet Explorer 10: Click on the "gear" icon in the top right corner and select "Internet Options." Select the Programs tab. The Default web browser setting is at the top of the window.

Safari: Click on the "Safari" menu and select "Preferences." Click the "General" button at the top. The default browser setting is at the top of the window.

Firefox: Click on the icon with three horizontal lines located in the upper right-hand corner of the window and select "Options." Select "General" from the navigation pane on the left side of the window. The default browser setting is at the top of the window.

Chrome: Click on the icon with three horizontal lines located in the upper right-hand corner of the window and select "Settings." The default web browser settings are at the bottom of the window.

4. How do I know which version of Internet Explorer to use?
Most applications used on campus will work on the latest version of Internet Explorer, however some do require an earlier version of the browser. Below is a chart of the applications that require a specific version of IE:
