Alumni Email Project History

Index Button

In 2013-2014, former students who were still active users of their Baylor student email accounts were transitioned to a new and improved email service. The new account allows alums to continue to show their Baylor affiliation through their email address.

The new service, offered in conjunction with Microsoft, changes the email address to AccountName@alumni.baylor.edu. For many people, "AccountName" will be their BearID used while a student at Baylor. For those alumni who were not assigned a BearID, the format of the AccountName will be a combination of last name, initials, and sequence number and will be assigned by the ITS Help Desk upon request.

The new alumni.baylor.edu accounts housed at Microsoft can be accessed via the web at www.outlook.com/alumni.baylor.edu, via your smart mobile device, or via the Microsoft Outlook software client. They will include Outlook features like calendar, contacts, etc., and will provide 25 GB of email storage. These accounts with expanded storage capabilities will replace previous BearID@baylor.edu accounts.

Baylor Alumni Email Project Frequently Asked Questions

The information below was provided for the groups of former students who were moved in phases to the new email service in 2013:

Who goes first?
The first phase consists of former students who left the university in the last few years and who have continued to be active users of their Baylor email accounts. Other populations of former students will be added in subsequent phases until all alumni who desire to do so have the opportunity to activate an account.

More details specific to each group of alumni provisioned so far are included below.

Accessing the New Account
To access your new alumni.baylor.edu account:

  • Retrieve your initial assigned password from the personal email message sent you.
  • Go to www.outlook.com/alumni.baylor.edu and login using YourBearID@alumni.baylor.edu as your "organizational account" and that initial password. You will be required to change your password at that point.

GROUP 1 (A selected group of recent former students who have continued to actively use their Baylor email account)

  1. New alumni.baylor.edu email accounts for this group were provisioned in March 2013.
  2. Old baylor.edu accounts for this pilot group will remain available through April 30, 2013. During this interim time period, you will have access to both accounts and should move all mail that you want to keep from the old account to the new account. Mail can be moved in one of these two ways:
    • If there are a limited number of email messages in your baylor.edu account that you want to keep, login to your old BearID@baylor.edu account and forward these messages to your new BearID@alumni.baylor.edu account.
    • If you would like to move most, or all, of the mail in your baylor.edu account to your new alumni.baylor.edu account, do this. (NOTE: Baylor employees should not move their baylor.edu email to a non-Baylor account.)
      1. First, login to your current baylor.edu account and delete any messages you do not want to keep/move.
      2. Then, follow these instructions to connect your old account to your new account so that the email messages can be moved.

GROUP 2 (A second group of recent former students who have continued to actively use their Baylor email account)

  1. New alumni.baylor.edu email accounts for this group were provisioned in late April 2013.
  2. Old baylor.edu accounts for this pilot group will remain available through June 17, 2013. During this interim time period, you will have access to both accounts and should move all mail that you want to keep from the old account to the new account. Mail can be moved in one of the two ways described above for Group 1.

GROUP 3 (A third group of recent former students who have continued to actively use their Baylor email account)

  1. New alumni.baylor.edu email accounts for this group were provisioned in late June 2013 with notification the first week of July.
  2. Old baylor.edu accounts for this pilot group will remain available through September 3, 2013. During this interim time period, you will have access to both accounts and should move all mail that you want to keep from the old account to the new account.
