General

  1. Q: I heard that BearQuest will be going through an upgrade process.  When will that take place?
  2. A: We will upgrade to Version 5 the last weekend in July.  BearQuest will be down beginning July 23rd through July 26th.

  3. Q: How will I log in to BearQuest Version 5?
  4. A: The production web address will remain the same.  (http://www.baylor.edu/bearquest)

  5. Q: Will the screens change?  Will I need to be re-trained?
  6. A: There will be some significant changes to the menu structure when you log in for the first time.  Once you have started a request, though, most of the screens will look almost identical to Version 4.7.  For an overview of the changes, you can watch the online training video, which can be found by clicking here.  Classroom training will also be offered for users who feel like they need more practice.

  7. Q: What does going from Version 4.7 to Version 5.0 really mean?
  8. A: Banner is a software application written by SunGardHE that uses an Oracle database to gather, store and present information through the Banner software, other reports, and several web applications we use here on campus. Every 18-24 months the vendor (SunGardHE) releases a new major version to deliver functional and technical improvements to Banner. We must implement these versions to retain support from the vendor and to provide our users with the latest enhancements.

  9. Q: What are the changes in this new version?
  10. A: You will find numerous changes on the "front" side of BearQuest.  For a complete review of the changes, please watch the online training video, which can be found by clicking here

  11. Q: Why does BearQuest need to be down so long?
  12. A: There is a significant amount of work that needs to be done behind the scenes to implement the new version.  This work must be performed while no one is logged into the system.

By taking Banner down on Friday, IT staff can work around the clock over the weekend to implement the changes. Then IT staff must verify that the system is functioning properly in the updated environment.

All of this work done over the weekend is to prepare the system for end-user testing by a designated set of client representatives. Once they verify that all critical aspects of BearQuest 5 are functioning, BearQuest will be made available to the campus by Monday morning.

  13. Q: Where do I go if I have questions?
  14. A: For Personnel and Resource Allocation Requests, contact Stephanie Kilgore in the Budget Office.  For Course Action Requests, contact Beverly Schlemmer in the Office of Registration and Academic Records.

Technical

  1. Q: How will I login to BearQuest?
  2. A: The URL for BearQuest is the same:  www.baylor.edu/bearquest

If you are using a PC and logging in using Windows Explorer, the system will not prompt you for a username and password.  If you use FireFox, you will be prompted with your Bear ID and Bear ID password (your network login - Firstname_Lastname).

  3. Q: Will BearQuest work on a Mac?
  4. A: The system should work on a Mac, however, testing of browser specific issues has been limited. Using Internet Explorer should reduce these issues.  You may also be prompted for your Bear ID and password credentials.

  5. Q: What type of system is BearQuest?
  6. A: BearQuest is 3rd party software provided by Integrify. It is a web-based workflow and document management system. Click here to see the BearQuest dashboard and here to see an example of the Request Overview screen.
