Vista
ITS is looking at a Summer 2009 deployment of Windows Vista. This will allow for sufficient testing of Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (due April 2009) and time for some remaining applications to become certified for Vista.
ITS recommends the following for optimal Vista performance (with Office 2007):
- 2.0 (or greater) GHz processor
- 2 GB system memory (RAM)
- 128 MB graphics memory
- 80 GB hard drive
These specifications should cover computers at the A,B, and C levels for the 2008-2009 budget year, with the following exceptions:
- Memory will most likely need to be upgraded to achieve 2 GB RAM.
- Only the newest computers will have 128 MB of graphics memory. However, Vista will run without this memory, but you won't be able to access the more graphics-intense features.
You can see the status of campus applications in the chart below. Green indicates that the software is supported, yellow indicates that the software works, but has issues, and red indicates a constraint that will forbid Vista installation. If you see changes that need to be made, or applications/ services that need to be added, please email Mark Mastin.
