Backup and Recovery of enterprise servers and desktop units. Backup solutions: Administers the SAN and Tivoli tape back up systems. Currently, there are around 40 TB of data stored with approximately 1TB refresh daily.
Directory Services: Directory and authentication services are primarily based on Active Directory, and provide user and authentication services for most enterprise campus systems.
Disaster Avoidance and Disaster Recovery: Lead in investigating, evaluation and recommending processes and solutions for the recovery of the datacenter and services in the event of a disaster
Domain Name Services: Domain Name Services (DNS) provides machine name to address translation. This allows networked computers to communicate with each other based on names instead of long numbers.
Email: E-mail is based upon Microsoft Exchange for current faculty, staff, and students. Exchange offers a variety of options for access such as Outlook, IMAP, or via the web. We also support alumni e-mail on UNIX based system with access through IMAP and POP protocols.
Enterprise-Level Directory Services (Identification, Authentication and Authorization): Administration and maintenance of 76,423 Active Directory users accounts (including 26,667 former students)
File Sharing: File sharing provides users with file storage accessible via Baylor's network. These shares are hosted on a Microsoft Windows cluster providing enterprise-wide access and availability with the added security of Tivoli backup services.
Mobile Synchronization Services: Evaluates, recommends, implements and manages data services to PDA devices on campus
Printing: Centralized printing resources are hosted on a Microsoft Windows 2003 cluster environment for all faculty, staff, and students with high availability, manageability, and scalability.
Storage Area Network: Support two storage area networks (SANs) that provide consolidated storage for several applications including email, printing and file sharing, Banner, PeopleSoft, Khalix, and Xythos. The SANs are an excellent combination of enterprise reliability and performance and are fully scalable to meet our unpredictable storage growth requirements.
VMWare – Server virtalization: Virtualization of servers will be looked back at as one of the greatest advances for Datacenter. The server group has thoroughly investigated and currently implementing VM "farms" that will have a significant positive impact on future costs.
Windows Server Update Services: This service allows ITS to download software and system updates directly from Microsoft for electronic deployment to Windows computers.
