Guest Access to Online Services

University departments who are hosting short-term guests who need access to Baylor resources requiring a login (i.e., lab computers, printing services) are now able to arrange for those guests to have a temporary BearID. All accounts issued provide basic access to public computers on campus; additional access levels are available on a limited basis due to licensing and other restrictions. (If the guest only requires internet access, a BU-EVENT login should be requested rather than a temporary BearID.)

Temporary BearIDs are issued to guests only with proper identification (state or government-issued photo ID) and a signed copy of the Technology Systems Usage Policy (BU-PP025).

Guests also require sponsorship from a campus department. The sponsor should be the same person serving as the primary contact for the guest while he or she is on campus. The sponsor's signature is required on the Technology Systems Usage Policy.

Getting a temporary BearID

Departments wishing to arrange a temporary BearID for guests should ensure that the following steps are completed at least two weeks before the account is needed:

  1. The sponsor should print, sign, and mail the signed copy of the Technology Systems Usage Policy to Production Services, One Bear Place, Box 97268.
  2. The sponsor for a guest will log on to the Account Management Portal (bearid).

  3. Click on the Requests tab

  4. Click on Request Access

  5. Click the Request Guest Access button, (Default time is 2 weeks. This can be increased or decreased as needed).

  6. Complete the form

  7. The approval for this account will be emailed to the sponsor's supervisor and upon approval, the account will be provisioned

  8. The supervisor of the sponsor, unless they are the supervisor, will get an email with the user id and authorization code for the guest to create their password

Upon arrival, the guest should visit the Robinson Tower Suite 580, to sign the Technology Systems Usage Policy, present proper identification, and receive account information.
