2010 Crane Scholars RetreatJune 3, 2010
On March 26-28, the Crane Scholars Program held its annual retreat at Moon River Ranch outside of Waco. Forty-six students attended the retreat, and were joined by a number of Crane Scholar cohort leaders and their families. Leadership for the retreat was provided by Dr. Simon Oliver, associate professor of theology at the University of Nottingham.
Dr. Oliver, an ordained Anglican priest, guided morning and evening prayer during the retreat. In addition, he delivered three presentations and discussions that invited Crane Scholars to reflect upon the calling of the Christian scholar and the nature of the Christian university. Around times of prayer and discussion, the students shared meals, played Frisbee, chatted by the fire, and watched the Baylor Bears continue their march through the NCAA basketball tournament.
At the center of the weekend were the strong ties of friendship shared and nurtured among the Crane Scholars, reminding all present of the gift of community.
