Remembering Jean Bethke ElshtainAug. 13, 2013
The Institute for Faith and Learning joins the rest of Baylor's community in mourning the passing of renowned scholar Jean Bethke Elshtain on Sunday, August 11. Dr. Elshtain was The Laura Spelman Rockefeller Professor of Social and Political Ethics at the Divinity School at The University of Chicago as well as Visiting Distinguished Professor of Religion and Public Life at Baylor's Institute for Studies of Religion (ISR).
The Institute for Faith and Learning was privileged to feature Dr. Elshtain as a speaker at three of its conferences over the years. We are pleased to make available here a video recording of the talk she gave at the 2009 Baylor Symposium on Faith and Culture, "Secularization and Revival: The Fate of Religion in Modern Intellectual History." Her talk was titled "Genetic Fundamentalism and the Myth of the Sovereign Self."
